CONDICIONALS


The Conditionals are certain structures of English in which, if a certain condition, situation or circumstance is true, then a particular result happens.

1- ZERO CONDITIONAL: This conditional refers to a situation that is always true

                                           If clause                         Main clause 
                                           If + presente tense       presente tense 
                                           If you freeze water        It turns into ice 


EXAMPLE:  If I work too much, I get tired.


2-  FRIST CONDITIONAL: Is formed if + simple present + simple future. It is used when a situation is real or possible.

                                        If clause                          Main clause
                                        If + presente tense        will, can, may, must + verb
                                       If it rains today                 I´ll stay at home


EXAMPLE: If I have time, visit my parents this afternoon.


3- SECOND CONDITIONAL: Refers to a hypothetical situation and the structure is formed as if + simple past + Simple conditional.

                                   If clause                       Main clause 
                                   If + past simple           would, could, might + verb
                                   If I won the lottery         I would travel aroun world                                           

EXAMPLE :If I was in Brazil,  I would go to Rio de Janeiro.


4-THIRD CONDICIONAL: Refers to a hypothetical situation in the past and is formed by the structure: if + past perfect + perfect conditional.

                            If clause                             Main clause
                            If + past perfect                 would, could,  might + have + past participle
                            If I had won the lottery       I wolud have traveled around the world

EXAMPLE: If she had explained me the problem, I would have understood it.
